WHYTE DORSET 2019 COMMUTER ROAD BIKE
Whyte's 21st century road bike with disc brake and wide 700x32 is equally fit for weekday commutes and weekend sportives.
With its TRP HyRd cable-operated hydraulic disc brake, its carbon fork and its Shimano sora 2x9 shifters and mechs, the Dorset is a great choice if you're looking for a cross / gravel / adventure / touring/ sportive-ready bicycle with genuine road bike-like speed potential.
Carbon forks
If you want to reduce weight whilst improving comfort, aerodynamics and steering response, upgrading the fork blades from metal to carbon is probably the most profound improvement you can make on a road bike.
TRP HyRd disc brakes
TRP HyRd cable-operated hydraulic disc brakes work with conventional drop bar brake levers, yet they offer the adjustability and power previously reserved for hydraulic brakes. The advantage of this system over any previous cable-actuated disc brake system is that the pads are much easier to set up at an optimal distance from the rotor without rubbing. These brakes automatically self adjust so the pads move closer to the rotor as they wear down. This means that TRP (Tektro Racing Products) HyRd disc brakes maintain optimal performance over the whole life of every set of pads (just like full hydraulic brakes).
To quote road.cc's review 'TRP Hy/Rd disc brakes combine cable actuation with hydraulic power right in the calliper. They're powerful, easy to live with and the best solution so far for disc brakes with conventional brake/gear levers.'
Flat mounts make for exceptionally neat disc brake calliper fitting
A gear for anything ridable
Shimano Sora 2x9 shifters with 11-36 cassette and 34-50t chainrings offer a wide range of gears to help make hill climbs easier and flat roads faster.
Mudguard and rack compatible for all-season performance
Full mudguard and rack compatibility means the Whyte Devon could easily double as a fast touring / commuting / everyday bike.
Whyte even make their own mudguards to match this bike. If you want mudguards and/or any other extras fitted, let us know when you order the bike and we will customise it to your requirements.
Whyte Custom-drawn Tubing
We believe that Whyte are the only company in the bicycle industry who build every hydroformed aluminium frame with custom drawn tubing. This means that Whyte go to the expense of spec'ing a different tube set for each frame size. Custom tubing is Whyte's guarantee that their frames will be as light as possible in every size.
Whyte Geometry
Whyte are famed for getting their frame geometry just right, to ensure you feel confident and centered on the bike. So it goes with the Whyte Devon. Its road bike-like seat tube angle (73.5 degrees in 54cm) positions you over the cranks for maximum pedalling efficiency. Its 73 degree head tube angle makes the bike reassuringly stable, especially on downhills. The happy result is a bicycle that rides like its a natural extension of your limbs.
Here's how Whyte describe their 'Sports Road / Commuter Disc RD7' Bikes
'We’ve grown up riding and racing the tough roads and tougher weather of Britain, but only now have we been able to make the perfect bike for not just surviving but thriving in these conditions.
The precise fingertip feedback of hydraulic disc brakes means assured descending confidence whatever the last cloud or tractor dumped on the next corner. Wide range gearing lets you spin efficiently where you used to struggle, so you hit hill after hill fresh not broken.
A collection of components is useless without the frame to match though, so in the words of our former Elite, UCI ranked road racing designer Ian, we’ve created the ultimate “21st century British road bike.” Light, aerodynamic and precise steering for searing speed, but with the rear stay and 27.2mm seat post compliance to fight fatigue all day.
Naturally it’s got ample clearances for large volume tyres and all the weather sealed, non frame-rubbing DOX internal cable routing wisdom of our MTBs. We’ve even designed our own flush-fit mudguards because you’re never far from rain even in July and we know this is a bike you’ll want to ride every day for sportives, Strava, fitness or just because serious performance is seriously fun.
Whyte Dorset
'The Dorset features Shimano’s 9-speed Sora groupset, with a wide-ratio cassette to make getting up the hills a breeze. On the descents, reliable TRP Flat Mount disc brakes will slow you down safely and easily.
Whether you’re commuting longer distances, winter training or entering summer sportifs, the Whyte Road Disc range offers Cyclo Cross durability with pure Road geometry.
A strong alloy 6061 frame, with mudguard and rack eyelets, combined with wide section Offset Rimmed RD-7 rims and TRP Hydro/Mechanical disc brakes will give years of reliable all-season performance.'
